Unity Software Developers
Based in Edinburgh or remotely within 2 hours of the UK timezone
In 2016, we started making mini-games in Unity in order to truly engage students in education. The combination of Unity to motivate kids and web to inform teachers and parents is unique to Sumdog and gives us a competitive edge.
We’re now looking to create a new motivational system in Unity that replaces our existing web system. With it, kids will be buzzing about learning like never before. So if you’re an experienced developer, who produces high quality code and has an interest in using gaming techniques to make education fun for all kids (not just the geeky ones) then this is a great opportunity for you!
We currently deploy across WebGL, iOS and Android platforms to reach the largest cohort of children worldwide. We use Ruby-on-Rails and Scala for the back-end. As a result, the work involves some highly technical challenges, such as ensuring that WebGL works on low-end Chromebooks, and that our apps work on most smart phones.
You’ll be part of an agile squad that’s given the autonomy to create their own solutions that meet the needs of our users. We use a fast-paced, quality-focused agile development approach that enables us to get rapid feedback from children, teachers and parents.
It’s a huge challenge, and we need talented developers to take Sumdog to the next level!
What we’re looking for…
- university degree in computing, science, engineering or mathematics,
- good verbal and written communication (in English)
- natural creativity
- experience of working as part of an agile software development team;
You’ll also have experience of…
- Unity development in a commercial environment,
- C# development
- developing for mobile platforms using Unity
- full-stack web development
Plus, it’s an advantage if you have experience of…
- Unity shaders
- 3D modelling
It’s also important that you share our desire to help every student reach their full potential.
Why work at Sumdog?
- a competitive salary
- a central Edinburgh office and/or remote working.
- an exciting and vibrant working environment
- a chance to be part of a fast-moving internet business with some amazing people
- share options
If you work remotely, you’ll have the opportunity to travel to the Edinburgh several times a year. It’s a beautiful city – I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. You’ll also get to visit schools in Edinburgh and see kids’ reaction to what you’ve made!
Above all, this is a great opportunity to make a real difference to children’s lives!
Full time (37.5 hours a week)
